Ashurbanipal 047

~655 BCE·Neo-Assyrian·Q003746

Written in modern English

Ashurbanipal, king of the world and king of Assyria, declares that with the backing of the god Aššur and the goddess Ištar he conquered his enemies and plundered their lands. Most of the passage is too damaged to read — only scattered words survive after the opening lines.

A modern paraphrase of the literal translation — same content, contemporary voice.
